Calling all Leaders!

Leadership is a human relational endeavour. But supervision is new to leadership development, even though it is used extensively in other relationship-based professions such as coaching.

We were recently asked at what point a leader would benefit most from our Super-Vision groups. Of course, we believe all leaders would benefit all the time! But the question got us thinking about our own experiences as leaders and when we would have been able to make the most of this resource. Our reflection led us to conclude that “When?” is the wrong question. The more useful question is “Who?”

So, who would these groups be of most help to? Anyone who ticks some or all of the boxes below…:

  • In a leadership position
  • Curious about yourself and how your leadership affects others
  • Thinking about the type of leader you want to be
  • Want to learn from your experiences as a leader
  • Want to lead more relationally
  • Open to not knowing
  • Open to new ideas
  • Open to being supported
  • Want to be ready for the next position
  • Facing new role challenges
  • Newly promoted
  • Working in a new environment
  • Feel you’ve reached a plateau or are in a rut
  • Feel something is missing

If you see yourself in any of these, then a Super-Vision group is the place for you to be.

Leadership is a human relational endeavour. But supervision is new to leadership development, even though it is used extensively in other relationship-based professions such as coaching.

Doug and Liz access the power of supervision as a reflective learning partnership between supervisor and supervisees. We offer group ‘Super-Vision’ to leaders to support their development personally and professionally.

When?” is the wrong question. The more useful question is “Who?”

The groups we co-create are places where leaders can share their challenges and celebrate successes. The group creates a safe and supportive container in which leaders can be vulnerable without fear of being judged. This is a place where questions can be asked without needing to know the answer; where it’s okay to be connected to our innermost feelings and not have to hide from them or keep them hidden. In our groups, it’s OK—in fact, we encourage you—to be supported by others as you support them.

As a leader, it’s hard to find spaces where you can be open with other people who don’t also have an agenda involving you or the roles you manage. In this open reflective space, facilitated by experienced supervisors, leaders find greater self-awareness and greater leadership awareness, and escape from automatic responses and unconscious patterns of thinking and behaviour.

Curious about how Super-Vision could support your development?

We arrange new groups at regular intervals. Get in touch with us to join one of the next ones—we would be delighted to hear from you!
